Cross-border tax residency can depend on more than the number of days spent in a country. Home, work, family ties, previous residence, and the dates a rule applied can all affect the picture. Recent updates to Residex make those factors easier to see and review.
See what could change an assessment
Residex now highlights missing information according to how much it could affect an assessment. Rather than presenting an unanswered question as a conclusion, the dashboard explains why the information may matter and points users towards what to review.
For example, a UK Statutory Residence Test assessment can show relevant ties—including family, accommodation, work, and recent travel history—alongside missing facts and their potential impact. This helps users understand the reasoning and identify evidence to check.
Explore more country-specific rules
Residex’s planning and assessment tools are being extended to cover more of the factors used in individual countries. Recent work includes structured explanations for selected European residence tests, including Cyprus’s 60-day route, and rules for countries such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Azerbaijan, and Kosovo.
The European and global mobility launch cohort now has model entries for 75 jurisdictions. That describes configured coverage; it does not mean every country’s rules have been fully verified or approved for automated legal conclusions. Some assessments still need manual review, and Residex labels those review points.
Plan around the selected countries
Scenario Lab supports plans involving multiple countries and lets users choose a specific period, including a rolling 12-month window. Follow-up questions can reflect the countries selected and the user’s planning objective.
The planning tools are designed to avoid applying a generic day threshold where a country’s rules call for a different or broader assessment. Where the available model calls for review, the scenario can show that limitation instead of presenting a day count as the whole answer.
Treat treaty dates with care
Tax treaties can change over time. Residex’s recent treaty work adds dated versions and timelines for selected UK corridors, including Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, and the United States. If a planned period crosses a treaty changeover that the system cannot resolve, Scenario Lab flags it for review.
Treaty coverage remains in progress. Of the 2,775 country pairs in the selected launch cohort, 104 are currently recorded as verified. The others remain visible as requiring review; they are not treated as verified coverage.
A clearer view of the evidence
These updates are part of Residex’s continuing work to make travel records, residence factors, source coverage, and unresolved questions easier to understand. They support review and planning while making clear where the evidence or country model needs further attention.
